Anybody heard of this, or know of anyone that installed one?  Nobody I know has any idea, it sounds almost too good to be true...  Just so many "turbo" sites that amount to little more than overpriced noise makers.

I have heard of them.  I am considering them for when I turbo my 1995 Cutlass Supreme.  The theory is sound.  I don't know anyone actually that has one, but I know a lot of people that want to try it.

The turbo mouting does not matter seeing that once the car is running, the exhaust system pressure spools it up, and once it has pressure, the intake tube will be where it needs to be pressure wise.

A couple people on a dakota site Im on have bought the universal kits and put them on. They had good results and no real complaints. I keep throwing the idea back and forth for what I want to do with my next motor. I am leaning on a turbo setup from them. You tell them what you are running and they piece something together for you and take all the guess work out. So even though its a universal kit, the turbo is picked for what you need/want.

Photo of shredded supercharger belts.
When supercharger belts break, they normally cause a great deal of damage to other engine components and belts.   (wrong)
You will also be stuck on the side of the road.

Actual photo of how hot a traditional front-mounted turbo can get.
You do not want this near critical plastic and electrical components in the engine bay, or
mounted under or near your feet causing significant driver and passenger discomfort.
did we forget the 1st rule of turbo operation .
and anyways speed cost $$  stop being a pussy and use heat wrap/shield.

Photo of the STS remote-mounted twin turbo system on a C6 Corvette.
Mounted in place of the stock mufflers, our turbo system is custom engineered to spool up as fast as a front-mount turbo system,(wrong) but eliminates all of the installation and excess heat issues.(wrong)

The distance crates no lag BFS!!   20 ft of pipe on BOTH sides!!!  think of your air compressor ,did it take less time to fill when u upgraded to a bigger tank? no. and what about the road hazard problem , running those pipes under the body . hmmm loose the intake pipe and suck 85lb,s of road salt through the motor. I dont think so!. they might werk but not a shit load of boost/efficiency of front mount .they cail 50% intercooler efficency !! ha most of the front mount 'coolers boast 70% and up!!  BTW heat is what makes a turbo werk its best, yes cooler oil is better. but heat is the fundamental principle behind a turbo more=betterr. a Nessasary evil and if you cant afford the good oil to take the heat , put a fucking hair drier on your civic

I've heard mixed reviews on them, but there is NO way they don't have turbo lag.

the one person I have talked too that actually had one said that he only had turbo lag when he first started the car and took off.  Once he was going, he didn't have any lag anymore unless he turned the car off.

how is that even poss.    20ft of pipe (approx) of space to compress(and lose thermal energy)exhaust   noplease
vs  all up in Ur grill <1ft away fire breathing fury (not to mention its still expanding on its way out the chute) thumbup
It would be like putting an expansion chamber on a Cr 250  all the way out at the back fender and expect it to remotely make the same power/driveabilty as where god intended it up FRONT! what next an 8-71 blower in the trunk! powered by what an elastic? off the driveshaft?
 bash wtf

We discussed this topic to death over on fightrice.com a few years back... What it came down to was a setup that used a supercharger to compensate for the initial turbo lag... But these "remote turbos" did get good reviews from the people that use them.

yeah i would never put one all the way back where the muffler is, unless I had a corvette where space just doesnt exist under the hood. Id rather have a slight lag than no boost.I would have mine where my stock cat goes so its still really close but in a place where there is plenty of room.

I've seen an Fbody with one on it.  I don't know who but the lag is no worse than a front mount believe it or not.  I could tell no noticable lag at all.  Some advantages of rear mount are ease of installation, and lower turbo temps.  I wouldn't drive the fbody one in the rain though.
